Event Proceedings
Main Issues Discussed:The workshop discussions were mainly based on two central themes: 1) The importance of conducting impact evaluations of programs and the usefulness of program impact pathways as a framework to guide the evaluation; and 2) how human centered design can act as a guiding principle while conceptualizing interventions.

Conclusions:Dr. Xian Ho (Dimagi) and Dr. Purnima Menon (International Food Policy Reseach) used multiple case studies to provide deeper insights into the development and evaluation of interventions, thereby providing frameworks which development sector professionals can use to improve the efficacy of public health solutions. These tools are not limited to public health, but deal with wider concerns and issues that are faced by interventions across the development sector. Dr. Menon highlighted that the focus of impact evaluation should not be restricted to the intervention and outcomes, but should also include the implementation of the intervention, as it plays a key role in informing the outcomes.
Follow-up Actions:The speakers acknowledged the following as areas that need further attention: 1) The need to focus on designing interventions during the conceptualization stage of the program lifecycle; and 2) that the construction of pathways should be a collaborative process, working closely with the evaluators.

Great event, was really interesting to think about all the different considerations one has to keep in mind while evaluating a mhealth platform. The human centric design session was good too!
